Online casinos can be genuinely entertaining — but they are built to make money, and the line between entertainment and problem gambling is easier to cross than most people expect. This page exists because we take that seriously. Every casino listed on this site is evaluated partly on how well it implements the tools below. An operator that makes these features hard to find or difficult to use doesn’t pass our review process.
If you are currently struggling with gambling, skip to the support resources at the bottom of this page.
Responsible Gambling Tools to Look For
Deposit limit tool
Allows you to set a maximum deposit amount per day, week or month. Any reputable casino should offer this at registration and make it easy to adjust — lowering limits should take effect immediately, raising them should require a cooling off period.
Loss limit tool
Sets a ceiling on how much you can lose in a given period. Once reached the casino should stop accepting bets until the period resets. Prevents chasing losses, which is one of the most common patterns in problem gambling.
Time and session limit tool
Lets you cap how long you play in a single session. Should include a visible timer during play and an automatic logout when the limit is reached — not just a notification that can be dismissed.
Reality check tool
Sends periodic reminders showing how long you have been playing and your net position for the session. Small but effective — most players significantly underestimate both figures without it.
Self-assessment test
A short questionnaire to help identify whether your gambling habits are moving into problematic territory. Honest answers matter more than the result — the point is to pause and reflect, not to pass a test.
Cool-off and time-out
A short break option — typically 24 hours to 6 weeks — where your account is temporarily suspended. Less permanent than self-exclusion, useful if you feel you need a pause without closing your account entirely.
Self-exclusion tool
Voluntarily blocks your account for a set period — from weeks to years, or permanently. Once activated it should be impossible to reverse during the exclusion period. Any casino that allows self-excluded players to return early or open new accounts is a serious red flag.
National self-exclusion registries
Several countries operate centralised self-exclusion schemes that block you across multiple operators simultaneously. If available in your country these are significantly more effective than self-excluding from individual casinos. Check your national gambling regulator’s website for local schemes.
Payout lock
Allows you to place a temporary hold on withdrawal requests — giving you a cooling off period before funds are returned to your account. Useful if you are concerned about gambling back winnings. Note this is an optional tool you activate yourself, not a restriction imposed by the casino.
